Healthcare AI search

AI search for healthcare: what is worth your attention?

You may have seen an AI answer mention your practice, omit it or describe it incorrectly. Start with a specific question: is there a public information problem to correct, or evidence of a useful discovery route to understand? A missing mention alone is not a reason to rebuild your marketing.

Check accuracy before chasing mentions

Choose a few ordinary questions a prospective patient or referrer might ask about your service. Avoid putting personal or clinical case details into the prompts. Record the service used, exact wording, date and sources displayed.

  • Does the answer correctly identify your practice and location?
  • Does it describe a service you actually offer?
  • Does it confuse your contact details with another provider?
  • Does the linked page explain the next step accurately?

Treat the result as a sample observation. Different wording or context may produce another answer. A claim about widespread visibility needs more than one favourable screenshot.

Fix the information you can maintain

Check your website first. Service names, locations, fees where published, opening arrangements and contact routes should be accurate and consistent. A former clinician or an unavailable service left on a page can confuse people directly as well as through a search summary.

Give each important service page a factual owner. Review clinical claims through the appropriate clinician. If another publisher has incorrect information, use its correction route. You cannot force an AI service to cite your preferred page.

Separate established guidance from experiments

Google states that its AI search features follow the same core SEO foundations and require no special optimisation. You can read the official guidance yourself. Clear public content and accessible pages remain the starting point.

An agency may test other ideas, but should label them as experiments and explain the cost, expected benefit and how failure will be recognised. Do not accept a promise that a special tag, article format or professional title guarantees inclusion across different AI products.

An example of a useful check

Illustrative situation: a clinic's old assessment fee appears in an AI answer. The cited page is an outdated guide on the clinic's own site. Updating the guide and pointing readers to current fee information has a clear purpose, even before any answer changes.

The team records the correction, checks the current page and later repeats the original query. Its report says which observation changed and what remains uncertain. It does not claim new patients or higher income merely because the new fee appeared once.

How much time should a practice spend on this?

Prioritise material errors and evidence of relevant audience use. If your service pages are unclear or enquiries go unanswered, those issues may deserve attention before a large AI monitoring programme. Keep any initial review small enough to judge.

Ask a supplier to distinguish an observed mention, a cited link, a referral visit and a suitable enquiry. Establish where each measure comes from. An AI report should help you choose a practical action instead of adding another number to watch.
