A useful project starts with a real problem
Suppose people ask an assistant whether your clinic offers a particular appointment. Your own pages give conflicting answers because a service moved between branches. The first job is to confirm the real arrangement and correct the affected pages and profiles.
That change helps people who reach your website directly too. It remains useful without a promise that an assistant will immediately change its answer or recommend the practice.
Ask what you receive for the fee
A proposal should explain the pages being reviewed, factual input needed from your team, changes to be made, approvals and reporting. If technical access is involved, ask the supplier to show the specific issue.
A list of acronyms or a guaranteed citation is not a substitute for that scope. Google says established SEO practices apply to its AI Search features and there are no special additional technical requirements. Other products require their own evidence; do not assume one rule covers them all.
Keep the content useful after the search
Once a person reaches the page, can they decide whether the service is relevant? Are location, practical fees information where applicable, booking arrangements and contact routes clear? Does an enquiry receive the right explanation of what happens next?
An article that attracts curiosity but leaves those questions unanswered may do little for the practice. Improve the whole journey, including reception's ability to handle the enquiry.
Measure without turning observations into promises
Keep mentions, citations, visits and qualified enquiries separate. Record which questions and products were tested and when. A favourable screenshot demonstrates one observed answer, not a permanent position or a guaranteed stream of patients.
Review actual service enquiries alongside search information. Use the findings to choose the next useful correction, not to justify publishing a fixed number of articles regardless of demand.
A short checklist before commissioning GEO
- Name the audience and service you want to support.
- Identify the current page or information problem.
- Ask for concrete deliverables and factual approval responsibilities.
- Require a repeatable measurement method with stated limits.
- Reject promises of guaranteed AI recommendations or clinical outcomes.
