Practical guide for healthcare owners

Digital PR: share something people can verify

Digital PR is work intended to earn relevant public attention, such as coverage of a useful project, original research or a genuine announcement. A healthcare owner should begin with the evidence and the audience, then decide whether there is a story worth sharing.

Choose a real reason for someone to care

A new service, accessible resource or carefully documented project may interest a relevant publication. Explain who benefits and what actually changed. A generic claim to be innovative is rarely enough to help a journalist understand the story.

For an illustrative example, a practice might publish a new guide explaining its appointment process in a clearer format. The announcement can describe that resource and why it was developed without claiming it has already increased attendance.

Prepare a small evidence pack

Keep the confirmed facts, dates, approved wording and relevant supporting material together. If a result is reported, state the source, time period and limitations. Any quotation needs the speaker's actual approval.

Make the company description, contact route and permitted brand assets easy to find. Keep confidential information out of public materials and use appropriately approved examples rather than identifiable patient stories by default.

Agree what outreach includes

Ask a supplier which audiences and publications fit the story, what material it will prepare and how approval works. Separate the work you are buying from a publisher's independent editorial decision.

Be cautious of promises of guaranteed editorial coverage, rankings or AI recommendations. Paid promotion should be described as paid promotion. Publication volume alone does not show relevance or value.

Review what happened

Record the actual coverage, the accuracy of the story and useful referral activity where measured. Look separately at relevant enquiries. A mention without a link may still have communication value, while a link does not establish that a new client resulted.

Keep an announcement page current if practical information changes. A newsroom should be a reliable record, not a collection of unsubstantiated success claims.
