Verify practical control of the practice domain

A contract says the domain belongs to the organisation, yet only the supplier can reach the registrar controls.

What to change

Separate ownership assertions from demonstrated operational access. Ask the supplier to identify the registrar account, authorised organisation contacts and recovery route without copying secret credentials into the handover. Have the nominated practice administrator verify their appropriate access and understand which settings require specialist support. The useful acceptance evidence is the ability to perform an authorised harmless account check, not a verbal assurance that access can be arranged later if urgently needed.

A worked example

Illustrative example

Illustrative test: The administrator signs in independently and locates the domain's management record. The practice may receive a domain invoice while its nominated administrator has never opened the registrar account. A safe independent sign-in check reveals whether access and the correct domain record are actually available. The handover names the recovery owner and specialist support route without publishing secret values. This gives the organisation practical continuity now, instead of a promise that the supplier will arrange access when an urgent configuration change is needed.

What this means for your practice

An invoice or contract may say the domain belongs to the practice while only a supplier can reach its management account. Ask the supplier to identify the registrar, organisation contacts and legitimate recovery route using safe account identifiers. A nominated practice administrator should sign in independently and locate the domain record. They need not make specialist configuration changes simply to prove access. Agree which actions require technical support and who provides it. The useful result is continuity the organisation can demonstrate now, rather than an assurance that access could be arranged during an emergency. Keep passwords and recovery codes out of general handover documents.

How to check the result

The organisation has demonstrable access continuity and a clear specialist support boundary.

A mistake to avoid

A domain invoice alone does not prove control of its configuration.
