A link in an AI answer can be useful, but the first job is to understand what it tells the reader. For a healthcare practice, an accurate description and a relevant appointment page matter more than collecting screenshots of mentions.
Define the page and question you want to inspect
Choose one service your practice offers and a realistic location or audience question. Note the question, date, answer and linked pages. Include a question about your own practice and one about the service category, since they test different needs.
Do not call the result a fixed ranking. A generated answer can change with the question and context. A comparison should preserve enough detail for someone else to understand what was observed.
Inspect the link, not just the practice name
Open the cited page and find the passage that supports the answer. Check whether it describes the correct practice, branch and service. A nearby business with a similar name can create confusion even when a screenshot looks favourable.
Ask what a reader can do after clicking. If the answer concerns an initial assessment, a relevant service page should explain that assessment and the enquiry route. Sending someone to an unclear general page may produce little useful action.
Check access using Perplexity's own documentation
Perplexity describes its search crawler and user-requested fetcher separately. Ask your web supplier to use that guidance when checking whether the approved public pages are reachable, including any restrictions at the hosting layer.
Keep the task narrow. The supplier should explain the existing rule, the public pages affected and how the change was checked. Opening private areas or disabling security is not an acceptable substitute for a precise access decision. Access alone does not prove that an answer will cite you.
An example: the answer cites the wrong branch
Illustrative situation: a practice offers a service at one of two locations. A Perplexity answer links to a general location page and implies it is available at both. Compare the wording with the practice's current arrangements. Clarify the service-to-location relationship on the site and check the booking route.
Record what you corrected and repeat the same observation later. Keep an unresolved answer error visible in the record. One favourable retest is encouraging, but it does not prove that every related question now produces the same description.
Decide whether more monitoring would change a decision
Useful reasons to continue include recurring factual errors, relevant referral visits or prospective patients mentioning this route. If there is little evidence and your website still has obvious service or contact problems, those may be a better first priority.
A report should distinguish observed citations, actual visits and appropriate enquiries. Use our AI visibility guide to review the evidence and AI search support if you need help checking the public information.
