Make page contents links reveal the right heading

A contents link can scroll to the right area while a fixed header hides the heading. Keyboard focus may also remain on the contents list, making continued navigation confusing.

What to change

Ask the supplier to show that links within a long page reveal the intended section and allow visitors to continue reading or using it immediately.

A worked example

Illustrative example

Why this matters to your practice

A contents list is a promise that a visitor can reach a specific answer quickly. When Fees lands underneath a fixed header, that promise is only partly met. Ask the supplier to demonstrate each section link on the finished page, including with larger text. You should see the heading and understand what follows without a corrective scroll. It is also worth checking the return journey, because people often compare several sections rather than read a long guide from beginning to end.

How to check the result

Accept when section destinations remain visible and usable across visible screen area sizes, with a coherent way to return to the earlier reading position.

A mistake to avoid

Adding arbitrary blank space above headings may fix one header size while producing confusing gaps elsewhere.
